Statement of Principles

As amended on February 7, 1993

We are:

A coalition of organizations deeply concerned about the current state of education in Ontario’s schools and the directions proposed by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

We will speak with one voice:

  • In support of an Ontario school system committed to excellence and which answers to the public for its results.
  • In opposition to the Ministry’s educational agenda of fragmented responsibility and the implementation in classrooms of untried, untested, and unproved experiments.

Focused Mission

We exist to create support for a school system that answers to the public, parents and taxpayers.

We call for Ministry of Education leadership and a more responsible system of local education governance.

We seek an education system that stands accountable for:

  • A core curriculum which is subject-based and has clearly defined content and skills aimed at developing recognizable high levels of achievement by all students
  • Performance standards and objective evaluation for all students
  • Operational efficiency and sound financial management ensuring value for tax dollars

Objectives

  • Develop and present a vision of a truly effective education system
  • Mobilize and become an effective lobby
  • Co-ordinate efforts in support of quality education and financial accountability
